Media communication for project ROCK-IT – in part-time 19,5 hours/per week

Remuneration Group 13 | Limited: 2 years | Starting date: earliest possible | ID: FSMA018/2023 | Deadline: 26.05.2023 | Part-time | Remote work possible

DESY, with more than 2900 employees at its two locations in Hamburg and Zeuthen, is one of the world's leading research centres. Its research focuses on decoding the structure and function of matter, from the smallest particles of the universe to the building blocks of life. In this way, DESY contributes to solving the major questions and urgent challenges facing science, society and industry. With its ultramodern research infrastructure, its interdisciplinary research platforms and its international networks, DESY offers a highly attractive working environment in the fields of science, technology and administration as well as for the education of highly qualified young scientists.

Catalysis experiments are currently not highly digitized nor automated when compared to other fields such as macromolecular crystallography, where the potential of automation and digitization of measurements is already successfully exploited. ROCK-IT (remote, operando controlled, knowledge-driven, IT-based) addresses these challenges with the intention to provide solutions to improve the efficiency of catalysis research, tailor-made, yet composed of generic building blocks portable enough to be applicable to a wide range of measurements. The building blocks – partly interfacing to other ongoing projects in the field of data handling and science – include standardized and interchangeable data formats, standardized metadata collection, interfaces to electronic lab books, sample tracking and handling, Al-based experiment control and data evaluation, and automation of experiments under remote control.

About your role:

Independent conceptualisation and realisation of all public relations work for the "ROCK-IT" project. This includes in particular:

  • Design and maintenance of materials for the public presentation of the project (e.g. logo, website, brochures)
  • Organisation and implementation of outreach workshops to involve the user community (industry and academic) in the project
  • Collecting and analysing feedback from the user community
  • Supporting the respective project groups in designing and implementing the user interfaces (UI/UX) as well as creating a surrogate model of the project demonstrator
  • Support in project reporting

About you:

  • Degree in media communication, media informatics or comparable degree
  • Knowledge of models for didactic, journalistic and scientific media for knowledge transfer
